WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic baseball won both games of the Saturday double header against Chestnut Hill. The Sailfish (10-11) had their offense firing on all cylinders as they put up 16 runs in game one and 12 runs in game two defeating the Griffins (1-8) by 10 runs in each game. The two wins on Saturday completed the three game sweep of Chestnut Hill.
Game 1: Palm Beach Atlantic 16, Chestnut Hill 6
The Sailfish offense was clicking today as the 'Fish put up 16 runs in eight innings of work. PBA put crooked numbers on the scoreboard four separate innings during the game which lead to its 10-run victory. PBA collected 16 runs on 18 hits and nine walks with six different Sailfish having a multiple hit game.
Sean Houck singled home the first run of the game for the Sailfish in the bottom of the first. In the bottom of the second PBA exploded for three runs as Danny Tufariello homered to left field before Derek Schwimer brought home a run on a ground out and Riley Herold tripled down the right field line to bring home the third run of the inning putting the score at 4-0.
The Sailfish scored four more runs in the fifth inning on four hits. Marcos Perez singled to score Connor Rowland to push across the first run. Schwimer then singled up the middle to score Tufariello. Houck then singled to score Perez. The final run of the inning came from a bases loaded walk from Brandon Seltzer.
PBA added onto the lead in the bottom of the seventh when they scored six runs on two hits and four walks with one hit by pitch. The Sailfish added two more runs in the bottom of the eighth when Mike Santaromita launched a ball over the right field wall to score Damien Allione who had previously singled to center field for his first collegiate hit.
Tufariello and Houck both had three hit games for the Sailfish while Schwimer, Herold, Rowland, and Perez all had two knocks a piece.
Christian Denton pitched six innings giving up three hits and one run while striking out six. Denton picked up his second win of the year.
Game 2: Palm Beach Atlantic 12, Chestnut Hill 2
The Sailfish jumped out ahead early as they picked up where they left off in game one as they put up three runs in the bottom of the first. The first run came in on a Rowland single up the middle scoring Schwimer who reached on an error to start the game. Brandon Smith then singled up the middle to bring home Brandon Seltzer and Herold to put the score at 3-0.
In the bottom of the third the Sailfish added on again when Santaromita doubled down the right field line bringing Smith and Rowland around to score. Schwimer would go on to single up the middle to bring in Tufariello. Herold capped off the inning with a sacrifice fly to bring home the fourth run of the inning and put the game at 7-1 in favor of the Sailfish.
PBA scored two more runs in the fifth on two bases loaded walks by Smith and Tufariello. They would add three more runs in the bottom of the sixth. One run came on a Schwimer double over the left fielder's head and the other two came in when Herold hit a two-run homerun to right field.
Lance Fry picked up his first win of the year as he threw five innings giving up five hits and two runs with three strikeouts.
Schwimer had three hits in the game and Seltzer, and Smith each had two.
The Sailfish will be back in action next Friday March 15 as they host Rollins College for a three game series. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 6 p.m.
