HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Palm Beach Atlantic men's tennis continued their winning ways on Wednesday, defeating Coker 4-1 in their fourth straight victory of the season.
The 'Fish snagged the doubles point by taking both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles as Philipp Hoffmann and Carlos Niemeyer cruised to a 6-1 victory at No. 3. In the second position Erik Carlsten and Rodolfo Hasegawa were pushed to the brink but came away with a 7-6 (5) victory to secure the doubles point after Pietro de Silva and Thomas Salmon were knocked off at No. 1.
In singles action de Silva was forced to retire after winning the first game at No. 1, giving the Cobras their lone point of the match. Both No. 5 and 6 singles were unfinished due to time constraints.
Hoffmann was a straight sets winner as he defeated Hunter Horton 7-6 (3), 6-2 at the No. 2 position. Umberto Rosi and Erik Carlsten needed three sets to defeat their opponents at No. 3 and 4. Rosi took the opening set 7-5 before dropping the second 6-2. He came back to win the third 10-6. Carlsten was forced to win the final two sets after dropping the first 6-4 and he did so, winning the second 6-2 and the third 10-3.
PBA returns to the court on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. to take on Tiffin.
