HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Palm Beach Atlantic men's tennis started their trip to Hilton Head with a win on Monday afternoon, defeating West Liberty 7-0.
The Sailfish (3-1) won all six singles matches and earned the doubles point by virtue of winning both the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles matches.
PBA took five of the six singles matches in straight sets with Pietro de Silva dropping just one game in the No. 1 position. He defeated Camilo Moncayo 6-1, 6-0 while both Umberto Rosi and Carlos Meneses won their matches 6-2, 6-0. Miguel Paz was a winner, playing at No. 4, as he defeated Akira Kawabata 6-2, 6-2 while Thomas Salmon was won in straight sets 7-5, 6—2. Joao Vellosso picked up a win at No. 6 after dropping the opening set, winning 3-6, 6-2, 10-5.
In doubles play the 'Fish utilized six entirely different players as Erik Carlsten and Rodolfo Hasegawa teamed at No. 1 to win 6-1. Carlos Niemeyer and Philipp Hoffmann were also paired together and won at No. 2 by a score of 6-0. Stanislav Feofilov and Dhiego Szczupak played at No. 3 and fell 7-6 (2).
PBA is back in action on Tuesday as they battle Catawba at 8:30 a.m. from Hilton Head.
