WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic baseball dropped the second game of the three game series against Nova Southeastern on Saturday afternoon. The Sailfish (14-13) were unable to muster up enough offense to overcome the Sharks (19-8) as they fell 7-1.
The Sailfish got a great pitching performance out of the lefthander Christian Denton who threw six innings giving up only five hits and one earned run with one walk and seven strikeouts. Denton gave the Sailfish a great chance to win the ballgame as the score was 1-1 when he was taken out.
The top of the eighth inning was where the 'Fish had trouble as the Sharks added four runs on only one hit and one error. The inning also included four free bases on the one error, two walks, and a hit by pitch along with two wild pitches that allowed runs to cross the plate.
The Sharks added two more insurance runs in the ninth but would not need them as the Sailfish offense failed to get anything going in the final inning.
PBA did out hit the Sharks 10 hits to nine as eight out of the nine starting 'Fish were able to collect at least one hit. The only two Sailfish with multiple hit games were Danny Tufariello and Brandon Smith who both had two in the game and each had a double.
The Sailfish will finish the series with Nova Southeastern tomorrow, Sunday Mar. 24 in the rubber match which starts at 3 p.m. at J.M. "Jake" Rubin Park.
