WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic men's basketball team dominated Florida Tech on Saturday evening inside Rubin Arena. It was senior day for the Sailfish (13-15) as they honored Bakari Warthen, Michael Stones, and Student Coach Aaron Buch before the game. The 'Fish came out of the gate hot taking an early lead over the Panthers (8-20) and never looked back going on to win by a score of 81-64.
The Sailfish started out with a 9-0 to begin the game taking the lead for good with 19:27 to play in the first half. PBA shot 50 percent from the field in the half which included half-a-dozen dunks. Six Sailfish scored six or more points and the team accumulated 19 rebounds to help them to a 39-33 lead at half.
The second half was more of the same for the Sailfish as Andrew Moemeka scored 10 of his 14 points in the final 20 minutes. Warthen was able to net his 10th point of the night which made him PBA's DII era points leader with 1331. Warthen would go on to score 14 on the night. The Sailfish would net 42 points in the second half to cruise to an 81-67 victory in a game they never trailed in.
The leading point scorers were Warthen and Moemeka who each had 14 points. De'Ondre Jackson hauled in 13 of his own while Caleb Edwards was responsible for 12. Stones also had 10 points in his final game at Rubin Arena. The Sailfish had 40 rebounds on the night 31 of which were on the defensive side of the ball.
The Sailfish will return to action as the seventh seed in the Sunshine State Conference tournament as they travel to Boca Raton to take on Lynn on Wednesday Mar. 6. The time of the game is yet to be determined but will be posted on pbasailfish.com when announced.
