BOCA RATON, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic men's basketball team were defeated by Lynn University on Wednesday night in the quarterfinals of the Sunshine State Conference tournament. The Sailfish (13-16) were the seventh seed in the tournament which meant taking on the number two seed Fighting Knights (23-5) in Boca Raton. The Sailfish played well and led for the majority of the first half before falling in the later stages of the game with the final score ending at 75-64.
The Sailfish were in the lead for almost the entire first half with up to an 11 point lead at one time. Jules Jasmin dominated in the first half grabbing six rebounds and scoring 13 of his 15 points. Senior Bakari Warthen shot well going a perfect 2-for-2 from three-point range and scoring eight points in the half. PBA had 13 points off turnovers in the half which helped them to the 34-31 lead heading into the locker room.
The second half was quite the opposite for the Sailfish as Lynn took back control of the lead within the first two minutes of the half and never looked back. PBA was only able to shoot 31 percent while Lynn shot 52 percent in the final 20 minutes. De'Ondre Jackson scored 11 points in the half while Senior Michael Stones added 8 of his own but it was not enough for the Sailfish to overcome the offensive onslaught the Fighting Knights put on. The final score came out to 75-64 in favor of Lynn who will be moving on the semifinals to take on Florida Southern.
Jasmin led the 'Fish with his 15 points while also leading with 12 rebounds 10 of which were offensive. Jackson had 13 points in the game and six rebounds. Stones, Warthen, and Malek Barber all had eight points apiece.
The loss will concluded the season for the Sailfish.
