WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic men's tennis earned their 11th straight victory on Monday, narrowly defeating Sonoma State 4-3 at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center.
The 'Fish took the doubles point by winning at No. 1 and 3 doubles. Philipp Hoffmann and Carlos Niemeyer held off Santiago Sarudiansky and Josh Liu 7-5 down at No. 3 while Umberto Rosi and Thomas Salmon won 6-4 over Nate Oppenheim and Max Nudell at No. 1.
Singles play came down to No. 1 singles with Hoffmann and Oppenheim going head-to-head. Oppenheim took the opening set 6-2 before Hoffmann rallied to win the second 7-6 (3). In the third, both teams awaited the conclusion to see who would clinch the match as Hoffmann rolled to a 6-1 decision.
The 'Fish were also able to win at No. 5 and 6 singles as Rodolfo Hasegawa and Niemeyer picked up straight sets victories. Hasegawa won 6-0, 6-3 while Niemeyer was a 7-5, 7-5 winner.
The Sailfish are back in action on Wednesday as they host Eckerd at 3 p.m.
