WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic men's tennis picked up another win on Thursday evening, defeating Ferris State 7-0 to earn their ninth straight victory.
PBA swept doubles, winning all three by the same 6-4 score. Umberto Rosi and Thomas Salmon picked up the win at No. 1 with Erik Carlsten and Rodolfo Hasegawa winning at No. 2. The duo of Philipp Hoffmann and Carlos Niemeyer were victorious at No. 3.
PBA won three of the six singles in straight sets while taking No. 2, 3 and 6 in three sets. Hoffmann (6-4, 6-0) and Niemeyer (6-1, 6-3) dropped only four games each to pick up wins at No. 1 and 5. Hasegawa needed a tiebreak in the first set but was able to put Mathis Guerre away 7-6 (1), 6-3 at No. 4.
The final three singles matches all went to a 10-point tiebreak third set as both Rosi and Carlsten overcame dropping the first set. Rosi fell 7-5 at No. 2 in the first set before rebounding to win the second 6-3 and the third 12-10. Carlsten fell 6-0 in the first at No. 3 but won the second 7-6 (5) and the third 10-7. Down at No. 6 Miguel Paz took the opening set 6-2 before dropping the second 7-5. Paz bounced back to win the third 11-9.
The Sailfish will take a few days off before returning to action on Sunday to host Connecticut at the Mitch Gornto Tennis Center at 1 p.m.
