McCloskey's Double Lifts Sailfish to Win Over Georgia College in Melbourne

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic softball split two games today at the Florida Tech Invitational, as they fell to Columbus State in the opener and bounced back to knock off Georgia College in the finale.  PBA now sits 7-9 on the season after the split at the USSSA Space Coast Complex.

Game 1: Columbus State 5, Palm Beach Atlantic 2

The Sailfish got off to a slow start against the Cougars, as CSU jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings.  The 'Fish got one run back in the third inning as Magnolia West drove in a run with an RBI single past the shortstop scoring Kaley Hinds, but the 'Fish stranded a couple runners in scoring position to end the inning.

West singled on a bunt in the fifth inning, and came around to score on the play as the Cougar third baseman threw the ball away and down the right-field line.

The 'Fish were limited to just three hits in the game, as Kathryn Sutton picked up the final hit in the game.

Game 2: Palm Beach Atlantic 5, Georgia College 3

The Sailfish made a pair of errors in the first inning against GC that put the 'Fish in a 2-0 hole early.  PBA fired back in the second however to score three runs, as Janie McCloskey, Kaylee Winn, and Hannah Carlton worked walks and the 'Fish scored two on  Hayley Haas grounder that was misplayed by the defense.  The 'Fish scored a third run on a West single to take the lead.

The Bobcats tied the game on another unearned run in the fourth inning, but the 'Fish had another answer, as McCloskey scorched a two-run double to right field that plated Maddie Bertisch, and Winn drove in a run with a single to right that put the 'Fish up 5-3.

Abbey Busby took over the game from that point, as she didn't allow an earned run in the complete-game victory, and threw 155 pitches in total during the win while striking out four batters.

PBA will be back in action tomorrow with two more games, beginning with a noon game against No. 3 ranked North Georgia at Pride Stadium
