WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic's men's basketball team defeated Eckerd College on Saturday evening inside Rubin Arena. The Sailfish (11-13) played well down the stretch and were able to pull ahead of the Tritons (17-7) for the 65-54 victory.
The Sailfish started slow shooting 30 percent in the first half. The PBA offense was not firing on all cylinders but limited the Triton damage by playing strong defense. The 'Fish were able to collect 14 rebounds and cause seven turnovers in the half but Eckerd still had the lead 29-24 at half.
Palm Beach Atlantic came out slow from the break but eventually the offense heated up. The 'Fish were able to shoot 50 percent in the second half as they went 16-for-32 and grabbed 21 rebounds in the second half. De'Ondre Jackson lead the Sailfish with 12 points in the half in which PBA trailed until 10 minutes left to play. The Sailfish took the lead for good on a three-pointer from Bakari Warthen with four minutes left in regulation. From there the Sailfish pulled away for the 11 point victory over Eckerd.
Warthen had 15 points on the night while Jackson had 12. Jules Jasmin also scored in the double digits with 10. Malek Barber had six rebounds in the game as well as six points.
The Sailfish will host Barry on Wednesday Feb. 20 for a conference game in West Palm Beach. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
