MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball team concluded its short road trip with conference match against Florida Tech.
The first set consisted of several runs for each team. Florida Tech pulled away in the first half of the set thanks to an 8-2 run to take a 17-9 lead. The Sailfish fought back with a 9-1 run, which included five Panther errors, to tie the set at 18. A late 4-0 run by Florida Tech gave the Panthers a 24-20 lead. The Sailfish nearly stole the set after a kill by
Sam Wolf and two Florida Tech errors cut the deficit to one, but PBA was unable to complete the comeback attempt, dropping the set 25-23.
Both teams struggled to pull away in the second set. With the score tied at 10, kills from
Caroline Swan and Wolf along with pair of attacking errors from the Panthers gave PBA a 14-10 lead. Florida Tech responded with a 7-2 run to retake the lead. With the set tied at 22, two kills from Swan and a bad set by the Panthers clinched the set for PBA.
Florida Tech got out to a hot start in the third set, taking an 11-5 early lead. A 9-2 run by the Sailfish gave PBA its first lead of the set. Both teams traded leads as neither team could mount a sizeable lead. With the score tied at 18, PBA scored seven straight points courtesy of an
Anna Gregerson kill, a pair of kills from Wolf, two aces from
Lilly Turner and two errors by the Panthers, which won the set for the Sailfish 25-18.
The Sailfish found themselves trailing again to start the fourth set, but midway through, PBA found its groove. With Florida Tech leading 10-7, the Sailfish ripped off an 11-2 run to take control of the set. PBA had no trouble finishing the set as a kill from
Jordan Rush put the exclamation point on a 25-17 set win that clinched the set for the Sailfish.
Wolf led PBA's attack with 16 kills on an efficient .419 hitting percentage. Swan set a career-high for the second time in two days with 12 kills. Turner finished with 17 digs and three aces. PBA outhit Florida Tech .238-.147.
The Sailfish return home on Tuesday for a contest against No. 25 Barry. The match at Rubin Arena starts at 7 p.m.
