WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic baseball snapped their 10-game losing streak, defeating Barry by a 2-1 score on Friday at J.M. "Jake" Rubin Park. The Sailfish received a stellar pitching performance from Mikhail Cazenave on the night, as the senior twirled eight-innings of one-run baseball, allowing just one unearned run and lifting the Sailfish to their 19th win of the season. The Sailfish improve to 19-15 on the year while Barry drops to 14-20.
The Sailfish got on the board in the first inning, as designated hitter Danny Tufariello launched a solo homerun over the left-field wall and giving the Sailfish an early lead.
The game remained 1-0 in favor of the 'Fish until the sixth inning, when a Sailfish error led to the Bucs tying the game.
The 'Fish had an answer however, as Evan Dougherty and Connor Rowland singled, and Rowland came around to score on a two-out RBI single by senior Eddie Vicinanza.
Cazenave threw 8+ innings on Friday, and exited in the ninth inning after a walk. Joey Hennessey entered the game, and after getting two outs, allowed a single to a Buccaneer pinch hitter, but right-fielder Jake Summey fired a strike to catcher Ryan Johnson who applied the tag to seal the win for the Sailfish. Hennessey picks up his second save of the season with the scoreless ninth.
Tufariello finished 2-for-4 at the plate on the night, while Dougherty finished 3-for-3 while also reaching by a hit-by-pitch.
The Sailfish and Buccaneers will be back in action tomorrow, April 7 with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
