WINTER PARK, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic baseball won another extra-inning game on Friday night, defeating Rollins College by a 4-2 score in 11 innings. The No. 24/28 ranked Sailfish improve to 18-5 on the season, and have won 12 straight games. The Sailfish have won four of their last six games in extra innings and improve to 7-0 in Sunshine State Conference play. Rollins had won seven in a row coming into Friday's game, and now falls to 14-8 overall and 2-2 in SSC play.
The Sailfish and Tars were locked in a scoreless game until the top of the fourth, when Connor Rowland stepped up to the plate and sent a ball over the right-field fence for his first homer of the season. The hit was the first for the Sailfish off Rollins starter Cameron Enck, who was in control of the Sailfish lineup for most of the night.
The Sailfish added a run in the top of the seventh, as Danny Tufariello singled to right field, scoring Kyle Simon who reached after being hit by a pitch.
Mikhail Cazenave matched Enck pitch for pitch on the night, as the senior took a no-hitter into the eighth for the Sailfish. Cazenave got in a little trouble in the eighth however, as a couple walks and two infield singles allowed Rollins to tie the game at two. Cazenave left the game in the eighth after striking out 10 Tars and allowing just the two hits.
Mitchell Carroll entered with the bases loaded and one out, and struck out two hitters in a row to get the 'Fish out of the inning and keep the game tied. Carroll turned in another brilliant relief appearance, throwing 2.2 scoreless innings and striking out four Rollins batters.
The game remained tied at two until the 11th inning, when Simon drilled a ball to left-center field, scoring Rowland who reached on a walk. After Simon stole second base, Tufariello came through again, lining a single to center field and plating Simon.
The Sailfish trio of Joey Hennessey, Christian Denton, and Blake Beyel closed out the game in the 11th, with Beyel picking up his first save of the season.
The Sailfish finished the game with six hits, while holding the Tars to just three. Tufariello was the only played for either team with multiple hits, as he finished 2-for-5 with his two RBI singles.
The Sailfish and Tars will be back at it tomorrow, as they will play a doubleheader at Alfond Stadium, which will begin at noon.
