WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic men's basketball fell to Eckerd College on Saturday afternoon inside Rubin Arena. The Tritons received an outstanding game from big-man Trevon Young, as he finished Saturday's game with 24 points and 17 rebounds. The Sailfish drop to 9-11 in SSC play while the Tritons improve to 14-6 in league play.
The Sailfish hung with the second-place Tritons throughout Saturday's contest, as the Tritons led just 31-28 at the half. The Sailfish defense held Eckerd to just 38 percent shooting from the field and just 2-for-11 on three-point attempts in the first half. The offense struggled however, as the 'Fish shot just 36 percent in the first 20 minutes of play.
Eckerd hit a quick three to go up six points in the second half, but a string of fouls from the Tritons followed, including four in a span of just 15 seconds. The Sailfish were in the bonus less than five minutes into the second half, and did some damage at the charity stripe, knocking down 16-of-22 free throws in the second half.
The Tritons led by just three with five minutes to play, but went on a 10-1 run to open up a double-digit lead that the Sailfish could not overcome.
Marshall Riddle led the 'Fish in scoring, as the senior scored 14 points and made 4-of-11 shots from long range. Grant Gullett scored 13 for the 'Fish, and made seven of his 10 free throw attempts.
De'Ondre Jackson and Michael Stones both scored double-digit points off the bench for the Sailfish, as Stones added five assists.
The Sailfish honored their five seniors Riddle, Gullett, Lucas Morales, Milos Kostic, and Dakota Zinser before the game.
The Sailfish will get their chance at redemption in a few short days as they'll travel to St. Petersburg to face Eckerd for the third time this season in the Quarterfinals of the SSC Tournament. PBA will be the No. 7 seed and the Tritons the No. 2 seed. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
