Riddle's 32 Not Enough As Sailfish Fall In SSC Tourney

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Marshall Riddle scored 32 points and made nine 3's but it wasn't enough to keep the season alive for Palm Beach Atlantic's men's basketball team as the Sailfish lost to Eckerd 83-65 in the Sunshine State Conference Tournament.

The Sailfish (15-17) and Tritons (22-6) met for the third time this season and the second time in four days after Eckerd won in West Palm Beach on Saturday to close out the regular season.

Riddle was the lone Sailfish able to get going offensively in the game. He scored 18 of his game-high 32 points in the first half, hitting six of his nine 3's before the break. Things became more difficult in the second half as Riddle was held to just three triples. The senior made 10-of-17 overall from the floor and 9-of-16 from long range but the 'Fish struggled as a team shooting the ball.

Lucas Morales was the only other player in double figures for the 'Fish, finishing with 10 points. He made 4-of-6 from the floor but the rest of the team combined to shoot 8-of-31. PBA shot just 40.7 percent as a team as Eckerd shot 48.3 percent from the floor. The Tritons also saw a distinct advantage at the free throw line, making 17-of-23 compared to PBA's 9-of-20.

The lead changed hands three times in the early going but after Grant Gullett scored a bucket with 12:43 to go in the first half to put PBA up 17-16 the Tritons responded with a trey and never relinquished the lead again.

After heading to the half down seven – 40-33 – the Sailfish scored a bucket to start the second half as Jules Jasmin made one of his two field goals. That cut the lead to five but Eckerd again had an answer, scoring seven straight to push the lead out to double figures.

The Sailfish were outrebounded by 14 in the game and had three players tie for the team lead of six rebounds.

PBA closes out the season 15-17 overall and qualified for the SSC Tournament for the second time in as many years.
