DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – For the first time in school history Palm Beach Atlantic competed at a track meet as the Sailfish men and women took part in the Embry-Riddle First Chance Last Chance Meet on Saturday.
The Sailfish sent 14 women and 15 men to the meet as the women competed in five different events and the men in seven. Jon Paul Ogle was the lone competitor in a field event, finishing 7th in the Javelin with a throw of 41.01 meters. That finish was the best on the day for PBA.
On the women's side Kayla Fisher posted a 14th place finish in the 800 meters and won her heat with a time of 2:33.57. Makayla Richardson was just two seconds behind her with Elise Combs and Jessica Chavis finishing just behind. Kelly Giddes posted a 9th place finish in the 600 meters with a time of 2:01.03.
For the men Joshua Read posted team-best finishes in the 800 meters and the mile races. He was 17th overall in the 800 and 11th in the mile with times of 2:02.34 and 4:49.90. Justin Nesbit finished just behind him in 12th in the mile.
Michael Smith led a pack of runners from PBA behind Read in the 800, posting a time of 2:03.74 with Nesbit, Chris Sandys-Thomas and Carlos Meneses also competing. Meneses was the team lead in the 400 meters with Jared Yamada, Daniel Novella and Simari Turner behind him.
Isabelle Granlund won her mile heat with a time of 5:54.02, good enough for 14th overall. Jessica Lykins was the lone competitor in the 5000 meters from PBA and took 18th with a time of 22:41.41. Alexis Sanquist led three Sailfish runners in the 200 meters with a time of 29.19.
Ty Fisher took 12th in the 5000 meters with a time of 16:48.25 with Kebba Nyang leading the team in the 60 meters and Juan Pablo Puelma leading the 'Fish in the 200.
The 'Fish are back in action on Friday, March 2 at the UT Tampa Invitational.
