Simon Clubs Two Homers as Sailfish Defeat Spring Hill 17-3

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic baseball recorded 20 hits on Friday afternoon, and Kyle Simon clubbed two home runs en route to a 17-3 victory over Spring Hill College on the campus of the University of West Florida.  The Sailfish have now won four of their last five games and sit at 5-4 on the season.

The Badgers struck first on the day, as Brennan Fontenot hit a first-inning opposite-field home run off Sailfish starting pitcher Orsen Josephina.  SHC added another run in the second inning on an RBI single to take a 2-0 lead.

The Sailfish got one back in the second inning, as Sean Houck grounded out to second base to plate Bobby Brennan who reached on a single.

The Sailfish did most of their damage in the third inning, as Jake Summey and Eddie Vicinanza led off the inning with singles.  Simon stepped to the plate and blasted a three-run homer over the centerfield wall to give the 'Fish a 4-2 lead.  Marcos Perez, Summey, and Vicinanza added RBIs in the inning for the 'Fish, who took a commanding 9-2 lead after three innings.

Josephina was in command of the Badger lineup after the first couple innings, as he cruised through six innings on the day, allowing just the two early runs and striking out eight hitters to earn his first win of the season.

The Sailfish added a couple more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, as Simon hit his second homer of the game and fifth of the season.  The 'Fish added four runs in the seventh and two in the eighth to take a 17-2 lead over the Badgers.

Freshmen Houck and Carlos Lara picked up RBI singles late in the game for the 'Fish, as well as A.J. Puigcerver and Danny Tufariello off the bench.

Kyle Polaski, Lance Fry, and Kevin Fry closed out the game for the Sailfish on the mound, as the 'Fish finished the game with 12 strikeouts, their fifth consecutive game with 12 or more strikeouts.

Summey finished the opening game of the weekend 5-for-6 at the plate, as the senior scored two runs as well.  Vicinanza and Simon had two hits and two runs each, as Simon added four RBIs courtesy of his two home runs.  Connor Rowland and Mike Santaromita added two hits apiece for the 'Fish as Rowland scored three times on the day as well.

The Sailfish will be back in action Saturday, Feb. 16 as they will take on West Florida at 6 p.m. eastern at Jim Spooner Field.
