Sailfish Win Home Finale in Four Sets Over Florida Southern

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball bounced back from their loss one night ago and defeated Florida Southern in four sets inside Rubin Arena.  The Sailfish complete their home schedule and are now 26-4 on the season.  The Mocs fall to 19-10 with the road loss.

The Sailfish held a 15-13 lead in the opening set after back-to-back kills from senior Ally Rohn.  Florida Southern then went on an 8-1 run to open up a 21-16 lead and went on to take the first set 25-20.

The Sailfish inserted Sophie Hoekstra into the match for the second set, and the senior delivered in a big way, as she picked up five kills in the frame on just six attacks and the 'Fish won the set 25-21.

Hoekstra kept it going in the third set, as she posted six more kills to lead the Sailfish.  The 'Fish and Mocs were tied at 24 before a great dig by Amber Rowoldt and a save by Rohn and libero Lilly Turner kept a point alive and a Sailfish block gave the 'Fish a lead.  A Rohn kill on the next point gave the Sailfish the third set and a 2-1 lead.

The fourth set saw both teams make runs, but PBA and FSC were all tied at 20 late in the set.  The Sailfish gained an advantage at 24-23 and it was Maddie Span and Hoekstra combining on a block on match point to give the Sailfish the 3-1 win.

Rowoldt led the Sailfish with 16 kills on the afternoon as Nicole Mattson for the Mocs had a match-high of 20 kills.  Rohn had 14 kills for the 'Fish and led the team with her 24 digs. Hoekstra finished with 13 kills in just three sets while making just two attack errors.

Molly Burkhardt finished with six kills, 45 assists, and 22 digs on the afternoon while Turner added 23 digs and 10 assists.  Span finished the match with eight kills while Jennie Anderson added seven.

The Sailfish will wrap up their regular season on Saturday, Nov. 10 at 4 p.m. against Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Fla.
