WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball opened up the 2018 postseason with a 3-1 win over Spring Hill College, as they advance to the NCAA South Region Semifinal for the fifth consecutive season. The Sailfish improve to 28-4 on the season as the Badgers season comes to an end on Thursday evening inside Rubin Arena. The SIAC Champions finish the season with a 32-4 record.
The Sailfish took the opening set on Thursday, as the 'Fish got four kills each in the set from Ally Rohn, Sophie Hoekstra, and Jennie Anderson. The Sailfish and Badgers were close early on but the Sailfish ended the set on a 6-1 run to take the set 25-16.
The Sailfish dominated the second set, as they hit .300 and limited the Badgers to a .022 hitting percentage. Hoekstra had another four kills in the set to lead the way for the 'Fish. PBA cruised to a 25-13 second-set victory.
PBA and Spring Hill were knotted at 23 late in the third set, but the Badgers took advantage of two Sailfish errors and were able to extend the match with a 25-23 third-set win.
The Sailfish and Badgers were locked in a close fourth set, with the 'Fish up 13-10 midway through the set. With Rohn serving, the Sailfish won the final 12 points of the match and took the final set 25-10.
Rohn and Hoekstra led the way for the Sailfish with 16 kills each, as Rohn added 14 digs and three blocks, and Hoekstra finished with six blocks. Amber Rowoldt also added double-digit kills, as the freshman finished with 12 on the night. Molly Burkhardt had a big night for the 'Fish, as the senior finished with eight kills, 44 assists, and 18 digs.
Anderson had an efficient night, as she had eight kills and just one error, and also added eight blocks. Lilly Turner led the way for the Sailfish defensively with 20 digs.
The 'Fish will be back in action tomorrow as they will face off with Florida Southern in the NCAA Region Semifinal. The match is scheduled for a 7:30 pm start inside Rubin Arena.
