Span Dominates as Sailfish Sweep Mocs to Advance to South Region Championship

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball turned in one of their best performances of the season on Friday, as they swept Florida Southern College 25-15, 25-12, 25-17.  The Sailfish advance to the South Region Championship match for the fourth time in five years with the win, and will face off with the No. 3 seed Tampa Spartans tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. inside Rubin Arena.

The Sailfish got off to a great start on Friday, as they jumped out to a 10-5 lead and forcing the Moccasins to call a timeout.  The Sailfish got four kills each from seniors Ally Rohn and Maddie Span in the first set, and pulled away late to cruise to a 25-15 win.

The second set was even more of a dominating performance, as the Sailfish had 17 kills and just one error in the set and cruised to a 25-12 victory.  Span dominated the set, as she had five kills and no errors in the frame.

The 'Fish held a slim 10-9 lead in the third set, and that is when the senior Rohn took over, as she had six kills in the final 15 Sailfish points and the Sailfish took the final set 25-17.

Span dominated from start to finish, as she ended the match with 14 kills and just one error, hitting .565 on the night. Rohn and freshman Amber Rowoldt each finished with 10 kills on the night, as Rohn added 13 digs and three service aces.  Jennie Anderson had eight kills and three blocks on the night.

Molly Burkhardt had another double-double on Friday, as she posted 35 assists and 11 digs.  Raegan Grooms had 13 digs for the 'Fish while Ally Smith added nine.

The Sailfish will be looking to advance to the NCAA Championships in Pittsburgh, Pa. with a win tomorrow against Tampa.
