BOCA RATON, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball overcame a 23-19 deficit in the opening set on Tuesday and went on to sweep Lynn University on the road. The No. 18 ranked Sailfish won for the third consecutive match and improve to 17-3 on the season and 9-3 in SSC play as they defeated Lynn for the second time this season.
The Sailfish fell into a hole quickly in the opening set, as they fell behind 7-1 as Doug Walters took an early timeout. The 'Fish then went on a 7-1 run of their own to tie the game at eight. The 'Fish trailed 23-19 late in the set before winning six straight points capped off by an Amber Rowoldt kill to take the opening set 25-23.
The Sailfish cruised to a 25-13 victory in set two, as Rowoldt and Sophie Hoekstra had four kills each in the frame for the Sailfish who hit .371 as a team.
The 'Fish continued their strong play on both sides of the ball in the final set as they hit .256 and held the Knights to just an .043 clip. PBA finished with four service aces to just one for Lynn and the Sailfish out-blocked Lynn 12-6.
The Sailfish middles dominated play on Tuesday, as Maddie Span finished with 11 kills and just two errors while Jennie Anderson had 10 kills without making an error. Span and setter Molly Burkhardt led the 'Fish with seven blocks each while Anderson added four. Burkhardt added 31 assists and 10 digs on the night.
Rowoldt added 10 kills for the 'Fish while Hoekstra finished with five. Lilly Turner led the Sailfish with 14 digs on the night.
The 'Fish will return to play on Friday, Oct. 12 with a home match against Florida Tech at 7 p.m. inside Rubin Arena.
