Sailfish Sweep Tritons, Improve to 16-3

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball swept Eckerd College on Friday, as they complete their week of play with two sweeps and improve to 16-3 on the season and 8-3 in Sunshine State Conference play.  The Tritons fall to .500 at 8-8 with the loss inside Rubin Arena.

The 'Fish got off to a slow start in the opening set, as Eckerd took a lead midway through the set and led 20-17 late.  The Sailfish got a couple kills from Amber Rowoldt and one from Jennie Anderson to tie the match at 21, but would fall behind again, facing set point at 24-22.  PBA then received kills from seniors Sophie Hoekstra and Raegan Grooms to tie the set, and after a kill from Maddie Span, an Eckerd attacking error gave the 'Fish the opening set.

The second set was close as the Sailfish held a small lead throughout the set.  The 'Fish led 22-20 before an Anderson kill and back-to-back service aces from Rowoldt ended the set win for the 'Fish who hit .308 in the second frame.

PBA took over in the final set, as they hit .412 and cruised to a 25-19 victory in the third and final set.  The set was tied 10-10 before the Sailfish went on a 13-5 run to open a commanding lead that was too much for the Tritons to overcome.

Anderson was very efficient for the third match in a row, as the redshirt-sophomore finished with 11 kills and one error in just 15 attacks while adding four blocks.  Rowoldt added 11 kills herself, as the freshman also tallied seven digs.

Hoekstra, Grooms, and Span all finished with seven kills on Friday, and Molly Burkhardt had 35 assists and nine digs.  Two Sailfish players finished with double-digit digs, as Lilly Turner had 15 and Ally Smith had 10 on the night.

The Sailfish will have the rest of the weekend off and will return to play on Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Lynn University down in Boca Raton, Fla.
