Burkhardt's Triple-Double Leads No. 18 Sailfish to 3-1 Win over Embry-Riddle

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball got a triple-double from senior Molly Burkhardt on Saturday afternoon and won a wild four-set match against Embry-Riddle inside Rubin Arena.  The Sailfish have won five consecutive matches and are now 19-3 overall and 11-3 in Sunshine State Conference play.  The Eagles drop to 13-8 on the season and 7-7 in league play.

The Sailfish held a 17-15 lead in the opening set after back-to-back kills from freshman Amber Rowoldt.  Embry-Riddle then went on a run and took advantage of a couple Sailfish miscues to take the opening set 25-23.

The Sailfish were taken to five sets back in September by Embry-Riddle, and were trailing early in the second set on Saturday, down 7-4.  PBA then went on a 10-1 run to open a commanding lead in the set.  Senior Ally Rohn had three service aces in four points to help the 'Fish open up the 14-8 lead.  The Sailfish had nine blocks in the second set, as Sophia Rasmussen had seven block assists and Sophie Hoekstra had six in the frame.  The 'Fish kept up their good play late in the set to win 25-14.

The 'Fish opened up the third set with a 7-1 run, as four different PBA players picked up kills in the run.  Burkhardt had back-to-back aces shortly after to open up an 11-3 lead for the Sailfish.  The 'Fish continued their solid play and a Jennie Anderson kill closed out the set for the 'Fish 25-19.

The final set was close throughout, and PBA led 23-22 late in the set looking to put away the match and avoid going to five sets for a second time this season with ERAU.  A Hoekstra kill and another Rohn service ace closed out the 3-1 win for the Sailfish.

Burkhardt had a monster match for the Sailfish, as the St. Augustine, Fla. native finished with 15 kills, 21 assists, 21 digs, and five blocks for her first triple-double of the season.  Rohn and libero Lilly Turner both picked up double-doubles as Rohn finished with 19 assists and 16 digs while adding six service aces and Turner had 10 assists and 16 digs.

Raegan Grooms had another solid match in her senior season, as she finished with 12 kills and just one error while adding nine digs.  Rasmussen, making her first start of the season, had six kills and 10 blocks.  Hoekstra finished with eight kills and seven blocks on the afternoon.

The Sailfish will return to action next weekend in Orlando, Fla. as they will play three matches against Gulf South Conference opponents at the SSC/GSC Crossover Tournament.
