Sailfish Defeat West Alabama at SSC/GSC Crossover

ORLANDO, Fla.- Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball defeated West Alabama to open up the SSC/GSC Crossover tournament at the Orlando Sports Center. The Sailfish improve to 20-3 with the four set victory while the Tigers fall to 17-6 with the loss.

The Sailfish got off to a slow start as they trailed 14-10 halfway through the opening set. The 'Fish then trailed 19-15 before rattling off six straight points to take a 21-19 lead.  The Sailfish and Tigers then battled it out until the 'Fish took the first set 29-27.

The second set was back-and-forth for the first half as the 'Fish led 16-15.  PBA then went on a 5-0 run that was fueled by an Ally Rohn kill and two Rohn aces.  The Sailfish went on to win the second set 25-21 as Raegan Grooms closed out the set with a big kill.

It appeared as PBA would win in straight sets as they had commanding 21-15 and 24-20 leads in the third, before the Tigers went on a 6-0 run to stun the 'Fish and send the match to a fourth set.

PBA and UWA were tied at 12 in the fourth until the Sailfish went on a 5-0 run which included Molly Burkhardt and Grooms kills and a service ace from libero Lilly Turner.  The Sailfish won the final set 25-20 to complete the victory over West Alabama.

Burkhardt led the Sailfish with 15 kills and picked up her second consecutive triple-double, as she finished with 18 assists, 16 digs, and seven blocks.

Amber Rowoldt had a nice afternoon for the Sailfish, as the freshman finished with 14 kills.  Grooms added 12 kills and 18 digs on the day.  Turner led the way defensively with 24 digs while Rohn had a double-double with 26 assists and 15 digs.

PBA will play two more matches at the crossover tomorrow, beginning with a matchup with Shorter at 2:30.
