Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Kennie Silvestri

Sailfish Fall 90-77 to Tampa on the Road

TAMPA, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic men's basketball dropped a Sunshine State Conference game against Tampa on Saturday afternoon, as the Spartans came away with the 90-77 home win.  The Sailfish fall to 10-9 with the loss and now sit at 4-4 in conference play.  Tampa climbs over .500 as they are now 7-6 overall and 3-4 in SSC play.

Both teams shot 56 percent from the field in the first half of play, but the Sailfish were sloppy with the basketball, turning it over 10 times in the half as the Spartans took a 38-32 lead into the break.  Matthew Johnson and Marshall Riddle led the way offensively with seven points each in the half.

The 'Fish had no answer for Anthony Gamble in the half, as he scored 13 points and made three-of-six shots from downtown in the first 20 minutes.

The two teams picked up the pace offensively in the second half, as Tampa outscored the Sailfish 52-45 in the final 20 minutes.  PBA only had two turnovers in the final half, but were unable to stop the red-hot Tampa offense, who finished the game shooting 54 percent and 40 percent from long range.  Duke Shelton dominated the paint on the day for the Spartans, as he finished the game with 29 points and 17 rebounds.

Dakota Zinser finished his afternoon with 19 points, as the senior made all three of his attempts from three-point range.  De'Ondre Jackson had a solid day off the bench, scoring 15 points on 5-of-7 shooting and pulling down five rebounds.

Riddle ended his day with 10 points, while Johnson finished with nine points.

The Sailfish will be back in action next Saturday, Jan. 13 as they will host Lynn University at 4 p.m. inside Rubin Arena.
