Late Run Not Enough For Men's Basketball Against Lynn

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic nearly pulled off a miraculous comeback on Saturday afternoon but dropped their second straight, falling 75-73 to Lynn University.

The 'Fish (10-10, 4-5 SSC) trailed by 16 with 5:29 to play but embarked on their only big offensive run of the game to make things interesting down the stretch. PBA scored 13 unanswered points over the next three minutes to pull within a basket at 70-67.

Marshall Riddle knocked down a 3-pointer inside of a minute to go to cut the deficit to two and after forcing a missed shot by the Fighting Knights (8-7, 5-4 SSC) the Sailfish had the ball with a chance to tie or win the game. Grant Gullett couldn't finish inside and the ensuing rebound was kicked by a Lynn defender as the ball was awarded to the Sailfish with two seconds left. After a timeout the 'Fish were unable to cleanly handle the ball on the in-bounds and never got a last-second shot off.

PBA never was able to get on track in the first half, shooting just 33 percent before the break but finished the game at 45 percent after connecting at a 59 percent clip in the second half. De'Ondre Jackson led the way with a game-high 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting. He knocked down 5-of-7 from deep. Riddle finished with nine points – all on triples – in just 10 minutes of action. Gullett was the only other player in double figures for the 'Fish, finishing with 11 points.

The game was tight early as the teams traded the lead five times in the first nine minutes. Lynn used a 9-0 run midway through the half to seize control and take a 22-14 lead. The lead ballooned to 17 in the first half and eventually out to 18 in the second half before the Sailfish made their late run.

The Sailfish are back in action on Wednesday at home as Nova Southeastern visits Rubin Arena at 7:30 p.m.
