WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic continued their winning ways on Saturday afternoon, defeating Florida Southern 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-16) to stay undefeated on the season.
PBA improved to 12-0 overall and 7-0 in the Sunshine State Conference as the Mocs move to 7-6 and take their first loss in league play, falling to 4-1. The Sailfish become the only unblemished team in league play.
Ally Rohn collected her fifth triple double of the season with 15 kills, 20 assists and 13 digs as the Sailfish won their 20th straight set, securing their sixth straight sweep. Rohn also tallied two service aces as the team racked up seven on the day.
Susie Forbes led the team with 17 digs as both teams made sure there were plenty of long rallies.
Molly Burkhardt added 12 digs to go along with 12 assists.
Raegan Grooms joined Rohn in double figures with 10 kills and also added eight digs and four blocks.
The Sailfish were able to hit .298 in the match including .350 in the opening set. PBA held the Mocs to under .200 in each set as FSC finished the match at .190.
The first two sets played out in a similar fashion with neither team taking control. At 12-12 in the first the Sailfish reeled off five straight to take the advantage and control the remainder of the set. In the second it was the exact identical score of 12-12 when the 'Fish went on a run, this time it was four straight to give PBA the lead. After the Mocs closed the gap to one at 18-17, PBA scored four straight again to put the set out of reach.
In the third the 'Fish jumped out to an early 6-2 lead before pushing the margin to 16-5 as the Mocs never got into it.
A trio of attackers combined to collect 16 kills without an error as
Abby Palkert led the group with six. She also added three blocks.
Jazz Schmidt added five kills to go along with eight assists while
Maddie Span had five kills and two blocks.
The Sailfish will hit the road again, travelling to Nova Southeastern on Friday for a 7 p.m. first serve with the Sharks.
