No. 4 Sailfish Overwhelm Sharks Friday Night

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – No. 4 Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball continued their impressive start to the 2017 season with a 3-0 defeat of Nova Southeastern on Friday night.

The Sailfish (13-0, 8-0 SSC) overwhelmed the Sharks (4-7, 2-6 SSC) 25-17, 25-13, 25-16 to earn their 38th straight win over teams in the conference. PBA hit .330 in the match while holding the Sharks to a .093 attack percentage.

Raegan Grooms led PBA with 11 kills and hit .440 and was the only player to reach double digits in kills for the 'Fish. Ally Rohn recorded six of her nine kills in the first set and still recorded a double double with 16 assists and 10 digs.

Molly Burkhardt registered seven kills to go along with 14 assists, nine digs and four blocks. PBA finished the match with six total team blocks as Jennie Anderson matched Burkhardt with four blocks. Anderson added five kills on eight attempts to hit .625 for the match. Maddie Span added six kills on 12 attempts.

PBA rarely trailed throughout the match but found themselves down early in set one, 4-3. Quickly, the Sailfish turned things around to take an 18-12 lead on a kill by Burkhardt. In the second the 'Fish jumped out to a 7-2 lead to force an early NSU timeout. After that PBA extended the lead to 13-3 and later pushed it to 12 at 22-10.

Midway through set three Maddie span picked up two kills during a 5-0 run that pushed the PBA lead to nine at 20-11 as PBA finished off their 12th sweep of the season.

The Sailfish are back in action on Saturday as they travel to Miami Shores to take on Barry at 4 p.m.
