MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball continues to roll as the No. 4 Sailfish picked up their 11th win away from home on Saturday afternoon, defeating Barry 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-19).
The Sailfish improved to 14-0 overall and 9-0 in the Sunshine State Conference. PBA tallied 47 kills and a .330 attack percentage in the win while Barry (5-4, 3-4 SSC) hit just .176. The 'Fish recorded six team blocks with
Abby Palkert and
Maddie Span each recording three.
Ally Rohn led the Sailfish with 11 kills and 19 assists. She added eight digs which tied for the team lead with
Susie Forbes.
Molly Burkhardt added 16 assists, three aces and three digs while
Raegan Grooms and Palkert tallied eight kills each. Span and
Jazz Schmidt each collected seven kills in the balanced attack.
PBA trailed midway through set one, 14-15, but scored nine of the next ten points to take a commanding 23-16 lead in the set. Palkert and Rohn each had two kills during the run as the Sailfish cruised to the first set victory.
Things were a lot different in set number two with the Bucs hanging with PBA throughout the set. Barry took a 23-21 lead before PBA rallied.
Sophie Hoekstra picked up a kill which was followed by one from Span. A block by Span and Schmidt gave PBA set point and the set was won on an attack error from Barry.
After intermission the Sailfish rolled, turning a 5-4 early advantage into a 15-6 lead as PBA controlled the final set. Burkhardt picked up one of her two kills to seal the victory and give the 'Fish their 13th win in three sets.
The Sailfish will hit the road next weekend to take part in the annual SSC/GSC South Region Crossover which will be played next weekend in Birmingham, Ala. The full schedule will be released early next week.
