HOOVER, Ala. – Palm Beach Atlantic opened the SSC/GSC Crossover on Friday night with a 3-0 win over Alabama – Huntsville. The No. 4 Sailfish improve to 15-0 on the season while the Chargers fall to 15-9.
PBA had no problem getting on track offensively, hitting .352 for the match including a .440 clip in the final set. Despite the offensive power, PBA struggled to take control in the first two sets, winning 25-23 and 25-22 before taking control in the third to win 25-14.
In the first set the 'Fish trailed 17-16 before evening the set at 18-18. The teams stayed even until PBA picked up kills from
Jazz Schmidt and
Maddie Span to take a 24-22 lead. Span finished off the set two points later as she finished the set with five kills.
A 7-0 run in the second set saw the Sailfish take a 21-12 lead but the Chargers scored nine of the next 11 points to pull within two. A kill from
Ally Rohn and another from Span gave PBA the 2-0 advantage. The Sailfish didn't let set three get away from them, leading 19-7 and 24-10 before the Chargers scored four straight late.
Span finished the match with nine kills and a .533 attack percentage. She also recorded five blocks and two service aces.
Ally Rohn led the team with 13 kills and hit .310. She collected 13 assists and also tallied 10 digs as she notched her sixth triple double of the season.
Molly Burkhardt led the team with 22 assists and also added two kills and eight digs.
Schmidt also finished the match with nine kills, hitting .500 as she didn't commit an error on the night.
Jennie Anderson also hit .500 as she finished with eight kills and three blocks. The 'Fish collected nine blocks in the match and held the Chargers to a .165 attack percentage in the match.
The sweep is the 14th this season for PBA and runs their sets won streak to 29.
PBA will be back in action on Saturday as they take on Lee University at 1:15 p.m. Eastern and close out the crossover against No. 23 West Florida at 8:00 p.m. Eastern.
