HOOVER, Ala. – No. 4 Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball dropped a set but didn't drop a match over the weekend as they closed out the SSC/GSC Crossover with a sweep of Lee and a four-set victory over No. 23 West Florida.
The Sailfish improve to 17-0 on the season with the two wins. PBA will return home for five straight matches in Rubin Arena beginning on Tuesday against Rollins at 7 p.m.\
No. 4 PBA 3, Lee 0 (25-13, 25-15, 25-15)
The Sailfish had little resistance from the Flames as PBA hit over .300 for the fourth straight match, finishing at .311.
Ally Rohn collected her second triple double of the weekend and seventh of the season with 10 kills, 13 assists and 13 digs.
Molly Burkhardt led the team with 17 assists while also contributing 13 digs, five blocks and seven kills. It was her fifth double double of the season which is second on the team. The Sailfish finished the match with 10 team blocks, led by
Maddie Span's eight total blocks.
Abby Palkert recorded 10 kills on 20 attempts and no errors as she reached double digits in kills for the first time this season.
Jennie Anderson added six kills while
Jazz Schmidt collected five kills and five assists.
No. 4 PBA 3, No. 23 West Florida 1 (25-18, 20-25, 27-25, 25-19)
Ally Rohn and
Raegan Grooms led PBA as both hitters reached double digits in kills. Rohn led the way with 19 kills, hitting .439 in the process with just one error on 41 attempts. It's the 13th time she's reached double digits in kills this season and also a season high.
Grooms finished with 13 kills on 27 attempts, hitting .333 as the team hit .263 in the match.
Jazz Schmidt added nine kills for PBA.
The 'Fish took seven of eight points midway through the first set to take a lead they never relinquished. As the Argonauts closed the gap late in the set, the Sailfish scored five straight points thanks to three kills by Rohn to open a 23-16 lead.
PBA fell behind early in sets two and three and while they didn't recover in the second set they were able to turn things around in the third. The Argos led 9-4 early and kept the lead late into the set, eventually taking a 22-17 lead. The 'Fish scored five straight to even the score but faced set point at 25-24 before rattling off three straight kills from Grooms to take control of the match.
In the fourth the Sailfish built an early lead before keeping the Argos at bay most of the set, never allowing them to take the lead.
Rohn added 16 assists to her 19 kills and finished with nine digs. Grooms added eight digs to her 13 kills while
Molly Burkhardt collected 28 assists and 11 digs. Schmidt finished the night with eight digs as
Susie Forbes led the team with 14 digs.
The Sailfish finished the match with 10 team blocks with
Maddie Span leading the way with five including two solo blocks. Five other players each had two blocks in the match for PBA.
After the tournament Ally Rohn was named to the all-tournament team after recording 42 kills, hitting .425 and collecting 32 digs and 42 assists.
