TAMPA, Fla. – No. 6 Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball dropped their second straight match on Saturday, falling to Tampa 3-2 to suffer their first back-to-back losses since the beginning of the 2016 season.
PBA (22-3, 14-3 SSC) held the early advantage in the match, taking the first two sets 25-15 and 25-23 but the Spartans (12-13, 7-7) were able to rally to take the final three sets, 25-20, 26-24, 23-21.
The Sailfish hit just .186 in the match while Tampa hit only .129. The Spartans collected 15 team blocks in the match with the Sailfish recording only seven.
Ally Rohn led PBA with 14 kills and also led the team with 25 assists. She also added a season-high 26 digs to record her 12th triple double of the season. Susie Forbes led the team with 34 digs, one off her season high.
The 'Fish used an 11-0 run in the first set to take a 15-4 lead but from there things changed. The Sailfish never again were able to go on a long run as the Spartans responded after hitting negative in the opening set.
Raegan Grooms added 13 kills and eight digs for the Sailfish while Sarah Kimmey and Jazz Schmidt each collected nine kills. Schmidt also added 10 assists and six digs as Kimmey collected a team-high four blocks. Maddie Span finished the match with eight kills and Sophie Hoekstra added seven. Molly Burkhardt collected 21 assists, 12 digs and nine kills.
The Sailfish return home for their final home matches of the regular season on Friday, Nov. 10 and Saturday, Nov. 11 as they take on Barry and Nova Southeastern.
