MIAMI SHORES, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic men's basketball fell to the No. 11/12 ranked Barry University Buccaneers on Wednesday, dropping the road contest by an 85-74 final score. The Sailfish have dropped three games in a row, and fall to 4-5 on the season and 1-2 in conference play. Barry improves to 5-1 overall with the home win.
Barry got off to a quick start on Wednesday, as they knocked down three quick triples and led 9-0 just 90 seconds into the game. The 'Fish stormed back however, outscoring the Bucs 27-17 over the next 10 minutes to take a 27-26 lead. The 'Fish kept up their solid play the rest of the half, and took a 47-46 lead into the break.
The 'Fish shot 53 percent from the field in the half, and knocked down 10 of 16 three pointers in the first 20 minutes. Bakari Warthen and De'Ondre Jackson led the charge early, as Warthen scored 15 and Jackson added 12 in the period.
The Bucs however were the hot-shooting team in the second half, as they knocked down seven three pointers, and shot 52 percent (16-of-31) overall in the final half to win 85-74. Elvar Fredrikkson had an impressive half, as he scored 12 points and added five assists in the final 20 minutes. The Sailfish were able to keep it close down the stretch, but didn't have an answer for the three-point shooting of the Bucs late in the second half.
Warthen finished with a season high 26 points on the night, and also added four steals and two blocks. Jackson finished with 19 points, and also tallied three assists in the contest. Lucas Morales played solid down low for the Sailfish, as the senior scored seven points and grabbed seven rebounds.
The Sailfish will return home for a Saturday contest with Saint Leo University. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. inside Rubin Arena.
