WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – After playing four sets in each of the last three matches the No. 3 Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball team got back to what they've done 16 times this season, winning in three sets. The Sailfish defeated Embry-Riddle 25-19, 25-18, 25-17 to improve to 20-0 and 12-0 in the SSC.
PBA came out aggressive offensively and finished the match at .308. three players finished in double digit kills with Jazz Schmidt and Ally Rohn leading the way with 11 each. Rohn finished with her 10th triple double of the season with 18 assists and 13 digs.
The Sailfish were held in check in set one, hitting just .120 but picked things up in the second and third at .444 and .452. The Eagles were limited to a .140 attack on the night as PBA recorded 10 blocks. Sarah Kimmey led the way with seven blocks and also recorded six kills. Five other players recorded a block with Maddie Span, Sophie Hoekstra and Molly Burkhardt each recording three. Burkhardt added six kills and a team-high 19 assists to go along with 10 digs.
Big runs were the story of the night as the 'Fish used an 8-1 run early in set one to take a 13-5 lead and control of the set. In the second it was a late 4-0 run to turn a tight, one-point set into a 20-15 PBA lead. The Sailfish jumped on top early in the third, leading 9-2 after scoring seven straight.
PBA also recorded eight service aces compared to just three errors. Grooms led the way with three aces as Amy Schatzmann also recorded two.
The Sailfish return to action on Friday as they host Saint Leo at 7 p.m. PBA defeated the Lions in the first matchup this season, 3-0.
