Sailfish Survive Lynn, Stay Perfect On The Season

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – No. 4 Palm Beach Atlantic volleyball continued their winning ways on Saturday afternoon, defeating Lynn 3-1 inside Rubin Arena. The Sailfish maintain their unbeaten season as they improve to 19-0 overall and 11-0 in the SSC.

The Sailfish controlled the match through the first two sets, winning 25-17 and 25-13 but it was a much different story after that. Lynn took the third 25-19 before PBA hung on to win the fourth 25-23.

PBA hit a season-low .164 in the match while also committing 11 service errors and despite that were able to keep their home court winning streak alive at 39 and have defeated 35 straight SSC opponents.

PBA hit .481 in the second set as they cruised from the first serve, leading 8-3 before the Fighting Knights (4-12, 2-8 SSC) were forced to take an early timeout. The lead reached double figures at 17-7 before the Sailfish closed out the set by scoring five of the final six points.

The third set was quite different from the second with Lynn leading nearly the entire set. PBA's last lead in the set was 6-5 before Lynn scored 10 of 14 to take a 15-10 lead. PBA closed the gap to 16-15 but Lynn responded to score even of eight and open a 23-16 that was too much to overcome.

In the fourth the Sailfish were never able to put Lynn away, leading 15-10 and 19-15 but the Fighting Knights rallied to even the set 20-20. The 'Fish eventually were able to score the final two points on a big kill from Raegan Grooms and a block by Sophie Hoekstra and Maddie Span.

The Sailfish had two players in double digit kills with Jazz Schmidt and Ally Rohn each recording 10. Schmidt finished the match hitting .368 while adding three assists and a dig. Rohn posted her ninth triple double with 18 assists and a team-high 15 digs.

Susie Forbes added 14 digs and had one of the team's nine aces. Molly Burkhardt led the team with four service aces while also recording 18 assists and three digs. Span registered seven kills and led the way with eight blocks. Hoekstra added seven blocks of her own and also recorded six kills. Sarah Kimmey finished with six kills and five blocks.

The Sailfish will continue their five-match home streak on Tuesday as they host Embry-Riddle at 7 p.m. inside Rubin Arena.
