WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University baseball program has announced the addition of former Major League Baseball pitcher Kent Bottenfield to the position of Associate Head Coach to serve under Hall-of-Famer Gary Carter. A National League All-Star in 1999 with the St. Louis Cardinals, Bottenfield will be reunited with Carter in leading the NCAA Division II Sailfish after both were teammates with the Montreal Expos.
Not only a ten-year veteran of Major League Baseball as a right-handed starting pitcher, Bottenfield has also found success as a Christian recording artist, having recorded two critically-acclaimed albums after retiring from baseball following a serious shoulder injury in his final season with the Houston Astros in 2002.
Bottenfield will serve as the team’s associate head coach where he will be responsible for assisting Carter in many of the day-to-day aspects of running the Sailfish baseball program. He will also directly oversee the PBA pitching staff as the team’s pitching coach and top recruiter.
Based in Nashville, Tennessee while pursuing his career as a singer/songwriter, Bottenfield has remained active in baseball by serving as a private instructor while also running camps and other baseball-related activities.
More information regarding this announcement will be released in the coming days including statements from PBA Athletic Director Bob White, Carter, and Bottenfield.
