WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Welcoming in yet another out-of-state foe in the University of West Alabama on Tuesday afternoon at Gaines Park, the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s tennis team had a bit more at stake in this match however as a matchup with the Tigers is one with South Region ramifications. Continuing their good luck of late within the region, PBA dominated to an 8-1 win.
Now ranked #34 in the latest NCAA Division II rankings after being outside the national rankings during the previous poll, the Lady Sailfish continue to gain momentum as they currently sit in the #10 spot in the South Region.
Against the Tigers the Fish only dropped the #3-doubles game by an 8-6 score however winning all six singles and the top two doubles portions of the match.
Lina Rubiano continued to lead the Fish at the top with a 6-2, 6-0 win at #1-singles while Natalie Aleman shook off a #2-singles three-setter by winning 6-2, 2-6, 6-4. The pair dominated for an 8-1 win at #1-doubles.
Natalia Trotter and Amber Braaten, both underclassmen, were pushed but withstood the UWA charge as Trotter won 6-1, 1-6, 6-0 while Braaten won 6-4, 7-6 (5). Trotter and Braaten won 8-3 at #2-doubles.
Jordan Ittersagen finished with a 7-5, 6-2 win at #5-singles while Krishna Domenech went 2-6, 6-0, 10-3 for a win at #6-singles.
PBA is now 10-8 on the season.
