WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic University softball team completed a perfect week on Saturday as they finished 4-0 with all four victories coming against NCAA Division II South Region opponents with double-header sweeps against the likes of Nova Southeastern University and Lynn University. Three of the victories came as shutouts. Two of those shutouts came from the right-handed arm of senior Ashley Jones who has been named the Sailfish Student-Athlete of the Week.

Senior right-handed pitcher Ashley Jones started all four games while tossing two shutouts and finishing with a 3-0 record. Jones started the week on Wednesday evening with back-to-back shutouts versus Nova Southeastern University by the scores of 1-0 and 2-0. Jones limited the heavy-hitting Sharks attack to only seven hits in the 14 innings while walking one and striking out 17 batters. On Saturday, Jones once again went back to the pitching rubber and came away with an 8-4 victory over Lynn University in game one while allowing only two earned runs and striking out nine more batters. Jones logged the first three innings in game two before giving way to teammate Heather Laird who completed the 2-0 shutout of the Fighting Knights.

PBA is now 21-7 on the season while Jones finished the week with 24 innings pitched while allowing only 16 hits, four runs, two earned runs, three walks, and totaling 30 strikeouts. Jones is 13-5 on the year with a 0.72 earned-run average.

Ashley is an Elementary Education major and the daughter of Skip and Karen Jones.
