WINTER PARK, Fla.- After an eight day layoff since their last competitive game action as well as a short bench, the Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s basketball team hit the road on Wednesday night in search of a win at Rollins College. That search would leave the Sailfish coming home empty handed however as the Tars built a solid first-half lead and held on for a 66-53 win over the Lady Fish.

One of the top teams in the Sunshine State Conference at 22-4, the Tars held a 41-22 halftime advantage before allowing the Sailfish (11-17) to claw their way back into contention as PBA outscored RC 31-25 in the second-half.

Without starting point guard Lynsey Poole as well as fellow freshman Hayley Fields, head coach Robin Potera-Haskins was forced to use a roster of only six players against the mighty Tars.

PBA was led by three double-digit scorers including a team-high 16 points from junior Chanell Byrd who just missed out on a double-double as the Mesquite, Texas native also pulled down nine rebounds.  Melissa Perez and Selethia Jackson were the other two PBA performers reaching double-figures with 14 points each.

Junior center Kristine Webb led all players with 11 rebounds while playing all 40 minutes but was held scoreless for the first time this season. Freshman Loren Wilkins came off the PBA bench and added in seven points.

Rollins was paced by a game-high 20 points from Jessica Pressley who shot an impressive 7-of-9 from the field including an even more amazing 6-of-7 from beyond the arc. Center Ines Teuma chipped in 12 points as well.

The Sailfish will wrap up their regular season schedule on Saturday as they travel to play Saint Leo University in a men’s and women’s basketball double-header. The women’s game is scheduled for a 2 p.m. tipoff.
