AUGUSTINE, Fla.- Looking to break Flagler College’s current win streak on Friday evening, the Palm Beach Atlantic University volleyball team appeared well on their way to ending the Saints good fortune at 19 matches without a loss as PBA posted a strong 25-22 opening set victory. From there however the Saints proved why they now stand at 27-8 on the season as they took the next three sets for a 3-1 win.
The loss for Palm Beach Atlantic drops the squad to 11-13 on the season as FC followed up the first set loss with 25-23, 25-15, and 25-11 victories in effectively wearing down the PBA attack.
FC utilized another strong hitting performance highlighted by the strong front-line play of senior Katie Beale and junior Meg Weathersby as the duo combined for 37 kills with Beale leading the way with 20 kills. Justine Burkhardt added in 12 kills while Racel Stacy posted nine kills and just one hitting error for an impressive .500 overall hitting percentage.
PBA was paced by the efforts of two underclassmen; sophomores Lanae Robinson and Janeen McCormick. Robinson delivered a team-high 12 kills (.310 hitting percentage) while McCormick produced 10 kills (.269 hitting percentage). McCormick also produced well defensively from her middle-blocker position with two solo blocks and two block assists.
Defensively freshman Heather Shulke continued her solid work in the white libero jersey with match-high honors of 24 digs. Sophomore Jessica Way posted 31 assists in the four-set match.
PBA will return to the same Flagler College court tomorrow afternoon for a match versus Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) with the two teams suiting up for the neutral site match at 12 p.m.
