Bio Divider - PBA Highlights

Doug Walters was named the PBA volleyball coach on April 10, 2018 after spending 10 years leading Cedarville University in Ohio. He will be entering his sixth season as head coach of the Sailfish in 2024. Walters has led PBA to three seasons above .500 with seven wins against AVCA top-25 programs and two trips to NCAA Regionals.

In his first season with PBA, Walters led the Sailfish to a 29-5 record and a NCAA South Regional Runner-Up as they fell to eventual National Champion Tampa.  PBA went 27-4 in the regular season and were named the No. 1 seed and host of the NCAA South Region Tournament.  The Sailfish had two players receive All-American honors as Molly Burkhardt and Jennie Anderson were named All-Americans.  Freshman Amber Rowoldt was named SSC Freshman of the Year and South Region Freshman of the Year as well.

Walters followed up his first season with the 'Fish with an 18-13 season in his second campaign at the helm. The Sailfish had two players recognized for their efforts in the classroom along with their on-court accomplishments as Ally Smith and Lilly Turner were named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team. Sam Wolf was named SSC Freshman of the Year and Newcomer of the Year and earned SSC second team honors. The freshman was also named to the AVCA All-South Region team.

Walters led PBA volleyball's return to the court in 2021. The Sailfish returned to the NCAA Regional tournament, finishing the year with an 18-14 record. Jazz Schmidt was named the Sunshine State Conference Player of the Year and earned All-Region and All-American honors. Amber Rowoldt also earned All-SSC third team honors while Alyse Cundiff was named to the SSC Newcomer team. Walters picked up top-25 wins over Wheeling and Nova Southeastern in 2021.

Bio Divider - Prior to PBA

At Cedarville, Walters captured five straight Great Midwest Athletic Conference regular season championships between 2012 and 2016 and four times won the league’s tournament. In 2016 he led the Yellow Jackets to their first NCAA Midwest Region Tournament appearance, defeating No. 2 seed Findlay en route to the tournament’s semifinals. For his efforts, Walters was named the G-MAC Coach of the Year in 2016, his second of his career.

Off the court his teams were honored with the AVCA Team Academic Award six times between 2010 and 2016. He coached 19 NCCAA Scholar Athletes and seven NAIA Scholar Athletes.

Walters coached three conference players of the year at Cedarville along with 35 all-conference performers. He led the Yellow Jackets to the 2008 NCCAA National Championship in his first year while posting a 27-12 overall record. He was named the 2008 NCCAA National Coach of the Year and has coached 12 NCCAA All-Americans during his time. He collected an overall record of 220-146 at Cedarville and an 84-22 mark in conference games including a 60-10 record in the G-MAC.
