Jean-Marie Luxama Jr. enters his fourth season with the Sailfish, and his first as a Graduate Assistant Coach. A 2018 graduate of PBA with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Human Performance, Luxama spent the three previous seasons as a Student Assistant and Team Manager. He has been a part of the two most successful seasons in PBA’s D2 era the past two years, including being on the bench for the team’s appearance in the Sunshine State Conference Championship game in 2017, their first year eligible for the tournament.

Luxama played high school basketball at Lake Worth Christian for Coach Frank Baxley. The Luxama family is instrumental in the work of the church. Junior is no exception, as he plays the drums at his family’s church on a regular basis. On the court, Luxama has worked as a skills trainer with Dream Big Sports Academy and spent a year as an AAU coach. He has also spent the past three summers working Coach Balza’s summer basketball camps. Luxama is in his first year of graduate school, working towards a Master’s degree in Leadership.

Coach Balza had this to say about his new graduate assistant: “Junior and his family have been a big part of our team the past three years. Junior will take on new responsibilities this year. He has a love for his Savior and a love for the student-athletes on this team. I look forward to watching him grow as a coach this year.”
