Scott Kingston joined the Sailfish baseball coaching staff as an assistant coach in January of 2012.
Formerly the head coach at Mitchell College, a NCAA Division III institution in New London, Connecticut, Kingston also has coaching stops at the NCAA Division I level as well as the junior college ranks.
While at Mitchell in 2011, Kingston aided the development of one of the top offensive teams in Division III while also leading the young program to their first-ever New England Collegiate Conference regular season and conference tournament championships. Following their solid regular season and conference tournament success the Kingston-led Mariners were selected to the NCAA Regional Tournament for the first time in program history.
Kingston’s leadership enabled Mitchell to post the best team batting average (.352) and slugging percentage (.539) in the country for Division III while finishing the season with a 23-11-1 overall record and a 14-4 mark in the NECC.
Kingston will be looked upon to assist the Sailfish baseball team in the areas of recruiting and player development while specializing in hitting, infield defense, and base running.
In addition to his coaching and recruiting experience, Kingston also has developed, implemented, and conducted strength and conditioning programs at each institution he has worked with and will look to continue those programs with the Sailfish.
Before taking the reins of the Mitchell program, Kingston was an accomplished assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for a number of top-level programs around the country.
Most recently he spent time as the top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Mitch Markham at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, Florida. Before his time at IRSC, Coach Kingston was the associate head coach and hitting coach at Keystone College where his team ranked in the top ten nationally in five offensive categories while leading the nation in winning percentage across all three divisions of the NCAA ranks.
He began his coaching career at Frostburg State University where he served as the recruiting coordinator and junior varsity head coach. He would later move on to the University of Michigan in 2004-05 where he assisted in the recruiting efforts of the NCAA Division I, Wolverines baseball program.
Coach Kingston has recruited and coached a total of 27 players that have been drafted or moved on to play professional baseball including most recently the No. 9 overall pickin the 2010 Major League Baseball (MLB) Draft, Cory Spangenberg of Indian River State College. Other notable MLB players to have learned under Coach Kingston are Chris Getz of the Kansas City Royals and Clayton Richard of the San Diego Padres.
A former NCAA Division II player himself at Columbus State University and the University of West Georgia, Kingston began his playing career at the junior college level while playing for Middle Georgia College.
Primarily a corner infielder during his playing days, Kingston was drafted by the New York Yankees in 1995 following graduation from Columbus High School in Columbus, Georgia where he was an All-State selection following his senior campaign. He played his high school baseball under legendary coach Bobby Howard and helped lead CHS to three state championships.
Scott married the former Christa Patrick of Clarksummit, Pennsylvania in July of 2011.
