RALEIGH, N.C.- The Palm Beach Atlantic women's soccer team defeated Shaw 10-0 on Tuesday at WRAL Soccer Park. The Sailfish generated 30 shots, including 19 on goal, while holding Shaw to three shots and two on frame. The 'Fish scored four times in the first half and six times after halftime, Delzatto made two saves in the shutout.
The Sailfish controlled the first half with four goals, starting when
Maddie Hulme opened the scoring at 4:23 after an early corner and a
Madison Kovar shot on goal.
Brooke Delzatto made a save on Shaw's first shot, and the 'Fish continued to create chances through
Jordan Lavery,
Kendall Popp and
Brogan MacIsaac while earning three corners from 19:17 to 24:28.Â
Kovar scored at 19:28 to make it 2-0, and the Sailfish kept pressing with additional shots from Hulme before Abby Longstaff added her first goal of the season at 39:10.
Cassidy Norley finished the half's scoring at 42:46 with her first collegiate goal off an assist from Hulme, sending the 'Fish into halftime ahead 4-0.
The Sailfish scored six times in the second half and closed the match at 10-0, with Lavery scoring twice and assisting
Olivia Schaller's 83:34 goal. Earlier, Popp earned and converted a penalty kick at 47:43 to make it 5-0. After Delzatto saved a Shaw shot, the 'Fish followed with a corner, two shots and
Kelsi Bennett's goal at 55:22.Â
The Sailfish continued to generate chances around the hour mark, earning three corner kicks from 61:05 to 63:49 before shots by
Riley Chapman and
Kali Young, then Schaller scored at 68:29. Lavery added goals at 76:11 and 79:23, then set up Schaller for the final goal, and the 'Fish added two more late shots, including Schaller's effort to complete the half trick rang off the left woodwork. The half ended with the Sailfish outscoring Shaw 6-0 in the segment and finishing the match with the 10-0 result.
Lavery scored twice, added an assist and led the Sailfish with six shots, putting four on goal.
Olivia Schaller scored two goals on four shots, with two attempts on frame. Hulme recorded a goal and an assist, including the game-winning goal, and finished with four shots. Delzatto played all 90 minutes in goal and made two saves in the shutout. Ten goals is the most the Sailfish have scored this season and the most the Sailfish have scored in a game since 2024 when they netted 11 goals against Edward Waters.Â
The Sailfish return to the pitch on Saturday when they take on Saint Leo on Saturday evening back home. Kickoff against the Lions is set for 6 p.m. at the Rinker Athletic Campus.Â
