WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic men's soccer matchup against Carson-Newman ended in a 2–2 draw on Saturday night at Rinker Athletic Campus.
Kobi Thomas led the Sailfish with two goals however the Eagles were able to battle back both times to equalize and push the Sailfish to a draw.
The first period commenced with the Sailfish establishing their presence on the field. After a series of early fouls by Carson-Newman, PBA's
Simon Buechte tested the opposing goalkeeper with an initial shot. The momentum shifted positively for the Sailfish at the 30:28 mark when
Kobi Thomas found the back of the net, assisted by Buechte and
Clement Scaccia.
Despite Carson-Newman's attempts to respond with several shots, including a saved effort by
Flavio Giannini, PBA maintained its composure. The period concluded with the 'Fish holding a 1-0 lead, setting the stage for the next phase of play.
The second period began with a series of aggressive plays from the Sailfish. Scaccia led an offensive charge with multiple shots, including a notable attempt saved by Carson-Newman's goalkeeper, Elijah Buford. Thomas continued the momentum, striking a goal in the 72nd minute assisted by
Niklas Mahler, pushing PBA ahead 2–1.
Despite PBA's efforts to maintain the lead, Carson-Newman equalized in the 86th minute with a goal from Mitchell Honcoop, assisted by Rhydian Williams. The period concluded with both teams level at 2–2, closing the match on even terms.
Thomas led the offensive charge for the 'Fish, scoring two goals on four shots on goal. Mahler contributed with an assist, adding to the team's scoring efforts. Scaccia also recorded an assist, supporting the midfield play. In defense, Giannini played the full ninety minutes and made one save, facing ten shots in total.
The men's soccer team makes a midweek trip to Young Harris on Wednesday. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
