WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The Palm Beach Atlantic softball team secured a 5-2 victory over Embry-Riddle at Simpson Field. The Sailfish combined for seven hits, including a three-run third inning that proved decisive.
In the second inning,
Marli Szierer doubled to deep center, setting up a scoring opportunity.
Larken Maseda's sacrifice bunt advanced Szierer to third, and
Rhiannon Sibbett reached on a fielding error, allowing Szierer to score an unearned run. The inning concluded with the score tied at one.
The third inning saw the 'Fish take control.
Kaitlyn Campbell walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch.
Rylee Little singled to move Campbell to third, and Little then stole second. Szierer's sacrifice bunt led to Campbell scoring, marking the fourth consecutive game in which she scored at least two runs. Maseda followed with a single to bring in Little.
Miranda Rollins singled through the right side, adding another run as Szierer scored. After three innings, the Sailfish led 4-1.
In the fourth inning, the Eagles scored a solo home run to right field. However, the 'Fish responded when Campbell reached on an error and later scored on Szierer's single. The score was 5-2 at the end of the fourth inning.
Little pitched the final two innings for the Sailfish, earning the save after holding ERAU scoreless. The Sailfish took the first game of the series, 3-2.
Szierer recorded two hits and scored twice, contributing one RBI in the game. Little pitched two scoreless innings, striking out three and allowing no hits, while also recording a hit and scoring a run. Campbell added a run and a hit and successfully stole a base. Maseda contributed with one hit and one RBI, showcasing her impact at the plate.
Lauren Allen earned the win and pitched five innings, conceding three hits and two earned runs, while recording two strikeouts and issuing three walks.
PBA plays two more against the Eagles on Saturday at 12 & 2 p.m. at Simpson Field.
