BOCA RATON, Fla.- The Palm Beach Atlantic baseball team fell to Lynn University in a close contest, 5–4, on Tuesday. Despite leading through the first four innings, the Sailfish could not hold off Lynn's three-run rally in the ninth inning.
Lynn turned the game on its head in the ninth inning with a sequence marked by 'Fish miscues. A fielding error and a wild pitch allowed two unearned runs to score, tying the game. A subsequent single brought in the decisive run, sealing the late-inning turnaround.
Earlier, PBA built a lead through opportunistic play. In the second inning,
Andrew Fernandez reached on an error, later scoring thanks to a sacrifice fly by
Aaron Vetter.
Aidan Pierre's double put him in scoring position, and
Kody Kelly capitalized with an RBI single. The team maintained pressure with aggressive baserunning, as
Jake McNamara and
Carter Parent executed a successful double steal that set up a sacrifice fly from
Finley Holmes in the first inning.
Despite holding onto the lead into the late innings, the Sailfish were unable to fend off the surge in the ninth, as their final attempt in the top half ended with a caught stealing and two flyouts.
