Softball Completes Sweep Over Barry

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — The Palm Beach Atlantic softball team had an impressive doubleheader against Barry at Simpson Field, securing a 10–2 victory in the first game and following it up with an 8–0 win in the second game. In total, the Sailfish amassed a remarkable 27 hits over the two games, including a home run and a combined 10 stolen bases.

Following today's performance, PBA has now won 10 of its last 13 games. The Sailfish play their final home series of the season next weekend against Embry-Riddle. The game on Friday is set for 6 p.m.

Game One - PBA: 10, Barry: 2

The first game began with Barry scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. The Palm Beach Atlantic team quickly responded, as Marli Szierer hit a three-run homer to deep left field, driving in Kaitlyn Campbell and Addley Dean. Rylee Little later scored on a sacrifice fly, closing the first inning with a four–two lead.

In the second inning of the first game, the Sailfish extended their lead. Dianna Montidoro scored on a sacrifice bunt, followed by Little, who registered a season-high three runs with an RBI single. Kierea Smits added another RBI single, bringing the score to 7–2.

The fourth inning saw the 'Fish increase their advantage further. Little stole third and scored on a throwing error. Later, Miranda Rollins doubled down the left field line, driving in another run. By the end of the fourth, the Sailfish led nine–two.

In the sixth inning, Madison Sclichte singled down the left field line, allowing Ashlyn Storms to score and end the game early with PBA winning 10-2.

Szierer led with a home run and four RBIs, showcasing her impact at the plate. Little recorded three runs and three hits, adding a stolen base to her performance. Campbell contributed with two runs and two hits while also stealing a base. Larken Maseda collected two hits for the second consecutive game in her role as catcher.

Little pitched 2.3 innings, allowing three hits, no runs, and one walk while striking out three batters on fifty-five pitches. Smits got the start with 3.1 innings, giving up five hits and two earned runs, with one strikeout and two hit batters on sixty-eight pitches. Smits' performance earned her a win, improving her record to 4-0 for the season.

Game Two - PBA: 8, Barry: 0

The second game saw the Sailfish maintain their momentum, defeating Barry 8–0. They capitalized on 11 hits and five stolen bases, marking the second consecutive game where they achieved at least five stolen bases. The home team showcased a strong defensive performance, holding the Bucs scoreless over six innings while striking out six batters.

In the second inning, Holly Frankl drove in Rhiannon Sibbett with a single, putting the Sailfish ahead, 1-0. 

In the third inning, Rylee Little hit a double to deep center field, allowing Dianna Montidoro and Kaitlyn Campbell to score, extending the lead. Little's performance marked her third consecutive game with at least two hits.

Palm Beach Atlantic continued its scoring in the fourth inning. Frankl crossed home after a throwing error on Miranda Rollins' sacrifice bunt. Montidoro then singled to bring in Rollins. Addley Dean's fielder's choice allowed another run to score on an error, followed by Marli Szierer's sacrifice fly, making the score 7-0.

In the sixth inning, Little singled to center, driving in Campbell for the game-ending run. Campbell's performance was notable as she scored a season-high three runs and recorded a season-high three hits. The game concluded with the Sailfish maintaining a clean sheet and securing an 8-0 win over the Bucs.

Ashlyn Storms logged a complete game shutout, recording six strikeouts over six innings without allowing a run, achieving her first pitching win of the season. Little contributed significantly to the offense, finishing with two hits and three RBIs, including a double. Campbell led the scoring with three runs and added three hits, while Montidoro added to the team's success by scoring two runs and recording two hits, including one RBI.
