Baseball Drops Series Opener to Barry

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.- Palm Beach Atlantic fell to Barry University in a close 4–3 contest on Friday at Feinbloom Field. The Sailfish managed to steal four bases, but Barry's pitching ultimately secured the win.

Barry edged the 'Fish in a tightly contested matchup, with the deciding sequence occurring in the third inning. Barry's Anthony Tralongo delivered a crucial two-RBI single to center field, pushing Barry ahead after the 'Fish had initially taken the lead in the first inning. This swing in momentum set the tone for the rest of the game.

The 'Fish responded in the fourth inning, capitalizing on a passed ball to score two unearned runs. Finley Holmes' aggressive baserunning was pivotal, as he scored from third on the miscue, followed by Steven Serna crossing the plate on a groundout by Santi Scheele. Despite these efforts, missed opportunities and a double play in the fifth inning stifled further scoring chances.

Late in the game, the Sailfish had another opportunity in the ninth inning when Aidan Pierre, pinch-running for Brandon Castellon, advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt. However, the rally was cut short, leaving the tying run stranded in scoring position.

Jared Murray started the game for the 'Fish, pitching 5 innings and allowing 3 earned runs on 3 hits. He recorded 4 strikeouts and issued 5 walks during his outing, throwing 104 pitches with 54 strikes. A.J. Prendergast took over in relief, delivering 3 scoreless innings while giving up just 1 hit and striking out 2 batters. Prendergast showed control on the mound, with 54 pitches thrown and no earned runs allowed.

Carter Parent collected two hits and a stolen base, contributing to the team's offensive efforts. Jake McNamara added two hits and a stolen base, bolstering the lineup's productivity. Holmes scored a run and stole a base, enhancing the team's scoring opportunities.
