Baseball Drops Series Opener to Mocs

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla.- Palm Beach Atlantic fell to Fla. Southern 9–1 on Friday night at J.M. 'Jake' Rubin Park.

Fla. Southern secured the game in the seventh inning with a pair of key RBI singles from Will Burke and Brock Budacki, extending its lead to 5–1. The offensive burst was bolstered by Eric Harrison's single, which set the table for the scoring. The visitors added three more runs in the ninth inning, solidifying their victory.

For the Sailfish, an early highlight came from Aidan Pierre, who singled, stole third base, and scored on Ian Pennington's RBI single in the first inning to knot the game at one. Jake McNamara contributed with a double in the third, but the team struggled to capitalize on further opportunities with runners on base. Despite threatening in the sixth with Steven Serna's single, the 'Fish left runners stranded in scoring position.

PBA's defense faced challenges, marked by a couple of errors that provided Fla. Southern with additional chances. The home side's final offensive push in the eighth was stymied, leaving Patrick Rakes on base after a walk.

Jared Murray started the game, pitching 3 innings with 4 hits allowed and 3 earned runs, striking out 4 while issuing 5 walks. A.J. Prendergast delivered a solid relief performance, throwing 4 innings, allowing 5 hits and 2 earned runs, while striking out 6 and walking 2. Christian Alonso and Aidan McKee faced challenges in their brief appearances, with Alonso surrendering 3 earned runs on 4 hits in 2/3 of an inning and McKee giving up 1 earned run on 4 walks during his 2/3-inning stint. Ethan Byrd closed the game with a scoreless 2/3 inning, allowing no hits and issuing 1 walk.

The Sailfish return to action tomorrow at 1 p.m. when they take on the Mocs in a doubleheader to close out the three game series.
